Smart Arms (Positioning)

Optimizing workstations by using tools and designs to allow operators to work safer, effectively, and efficiently. Smart positioning arms do several jobs to optimize the workstation. The arms hold the tool at the proper hand position to reduce worker fatigue and increase comfort. With the proper tool position, operators can work more efficiently by wasting less time and movement. The exerted effort to use the tool is lowered because the positioning arm counter-balances the tool. The potential benefits with a positioning arm include reduced repetitive stress injuries, reduced operator fatigue, increased productivity, improved quality, decreased handling time, greater operator satisfaction, and lower recruitment costs.


Capabilities of smart arms are far-ranging, they can be simple arms to help use the tool easier to fully-featured smart tool arms that can track tool position to make the assembly process is done correctly. The arms can be equipped with a DC Tool, Cordless Torque Driver, or Pulse Torque Driver. Some tools like Impact Wrenches are capable of tightening to such a degree that a worker can be injured just by using the tool. An positioning arm is used to eliminate this torque reaction by holding and positioning the Impact Wrench instead of the worker.
